Talamban Chief to MCWD: Restore Roads After Project
Talamban Barangay Captain Jesus Remedio Jr. asked the Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD) to ensure that once it implements its water expansion project in Talamban days from now, they should see to it that the contractor will restore the good condition of the road after the project.
The Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) under City Engr. Kenneth Carmelita Enriquez had already issued excavation permit to GEO-Transport & Construction Inc. for the installation of a 300 mm. diameter water distribution pipes along the road of Sitio Tigbao to Lower Talamban.
The MCWD will be implementing an expansion project in Talamban area because of several subdivisions mushrooming in that part of the city.
The city engineer already advised the project contractor that to avoid traffic congestion along the project site, the activity should only be at 9 pm up to 5 am.
Enriquez also ordered the project contractor to install warning signs, barricades, steel plates and warning lights from the start of the project until its completion.
But the barangay captain is worried because he had experienced in the previous MCWD water expansion project that the contractor would just left the earth materials beside the road, contributing to traffic congestion.
“We have already experienced several instances that after every after digging is done by the MCWD, it would always bring problem to the barangay as the contractor will just leave unmindful of their end responsibility, giving headache to the barangay,” Remedio said.
Enriquez for her part reminded the private contractor that the restoration of affected structure shall be in accordance with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) standard and subject to 10-percent retention from the cash bond to guarantee its work, refundable after a period of one year.
The Cebu City Council had agreed to refer the matter to the members of the Committee on Utilities.
