A total of 11 patients who had tested positive of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Central Visayas have recovered, the Department of Health (DOH-7) reported on Sunday.

All of the recovered patients will be discharged from the hospital without paying anything as the national government foots the bill for their confinement, Dr. Jaime Bernadas, DOH-7 regional director, reiterated.

Four new recoveries were recorded over the weekend as shown by the test results of 233 specimens at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center Sub-National Laboratory (VSMMC SNL).

Bernadas, however said that two patients died due to Covid-19 in Cebu, bringing the death toll in the region to eight. There is also one additional confirmed case, bringing the total count of Covid-19 positive patients to 35, as of Sunday.

On Sunday, VSMMC SNL tested 84 specimens with 83 negative and one positive results.

Of the 65 tests conducted on Saturday, 63 results were negative while the other two, also negative, were from previously confirmed Covid-19 cases.

All 85 test results last Friday were negative.

“Two confirmed cases are intubated but are currently stable. The rest of the confirmed cases who are still admitted are medically stable as of their latest health bulletin,” Bernadas said earlier.

A Covid-19 patient, according to him, could be discharged once the person’s repeat test turns out negative and no more symptom of the disease is exhibited.

“Once the repeat test is negative, patient is no longer capable of infecting another person. Some patients have already been discharged after testing negative and no longer have signs and symptoms. However, the others are still admitted due to some underlying medical conditions and are ably managed by their doctors,” he said.

Cebu City remains to have the highest number of cases at 22, followed by Lapu-Lapu City at three cases and Mandaue City at two cases.

“Among the component provinces, Negros Oriental has the most number at four cases, followed by Cebu Province at three,” Bernadas said.

Bohol has sustained its record of zero local transmission, as the single positive case remains to be the 60-year-old Chinese woman who visited the province in January. She recovered from the disease.

Bernadas said Siquijor remains free of Covid-19. (PNA)
