DENR7 to Bring Confiscated Birds to NegOr

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 7 is set to bring to Ayungon, Negros Oriental, the exotic birds it has confiscated in Magallanes St. Tuesday. The birds will be placed in Ayungon’s bird sanctuary.

It was the department’s Protected Area Wildlife and Coastal Zone Management Services (PAWCZMS) which took custody of the 143 birds illegally sold in Magallanes St.. Those birds were either endangered or threatened, but no one was however arrested as the birds were abandoned when the authorities arrived.

DENR 7 Regional Executive Director Isabelo Montejo said selling of endangered or threatened animals is illegal under Sec.27 of Republic Act 9147 o Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.
