Talisay LP to Secure Barangay Posts
As early as now the Liberal Party (LP) in Talisay City is already scouting for winnable candidates to battle against the Alayon Party’s barangay chiefs for this October’s synchronized Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.
Vice Mayor Romeo Villarante said they will consolidate their forces in the city level to support their candidates in the barangay. Villarante’s younger brother and his nephew will also be running as barangay captain and SK chairman respectively in Barangay Poblacion.
Of the 22 barangays in Talisay, only one is LP affiliate- Linao barangay captain Fe Ylanan, wife of administration City Councilor Val Ylanan. This coming election is crucial to the LP in Talisay after it toppled Alayon’s scion and former first district Rep. Eduardo Gullas in the last May polls, as it still has no power over the council. Although LP has clinched the mayoral and the vice mayoralty posts, it only has three councilors: Ylanan, Danny Caballero and Alvin Diaz. For now, the Alayon Party, the opposition party, still has every say in the city’s operations because of its number.
Villarante said they will be fielding 21 barangay captains who are allied to them to ensure another seat in the council. If LP can secure more than 10 of the barangays, it can be assured of a post in the council through a duly elected Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) president. For his part, incumbent ABC president Charles Basillote, who is on his third term as barangay captain in Dumlog, said the Alayon is also preparing to battle against the LP candidates.
