Daag to Represent City on Search for ‘Top Outstanding Brgy. Official’
After serving as one of the barangay legislators of Brgy. Kasambagan, Cebu City for 18 years, Councilman Allan Daag is proud enough to represent the city in the regional search for the Top Outstanding Barangay Official of the Year 2013.
Daag started his political career as a barangay councilman in 1989 and then served the barangay for straight years of uninterrupted service until 1997. He tried his luck for barangay captain upon completion of his three terms as councilman, but he failed.
Although he did not won as barangay captain, but Daag continues to help his constituents that is why the people still supported him and again he was elected barangay councilman in 2002.
Daag will be vying for the Outstanding Kagawad for Highly Urbanized City category against other contenders from other local government units in Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor.
He was chosen to represent the city from five shortlisted barangay councilmen who were interviewed by a panel of representatives from Department of Interior and Local Government, Office of the Mayor, Association of Barangay Councils, City Planning and Development Office, and a non-government organization.
According to Daag the panel of government representatives already visited him in his barangay and interviewed him about his projects and accomplishments from January to December 2012.
Daag was smiling when he narrated that only very recently he received a call informing him that he was the one chosen to compete for the regional level.
“This recognition sums up my 18 years as barangay councilor. As a public servant, there will always be sacrifices and challenges that will be faced. I’m glad that the good things we have done for the barangay are noticed,” Daag said.
Daag believed that the panel of interviewees chose him over the four other candidates probably because of his “years of experience and sincerity to serve the people.”
“Ever since I started as a councilor, my motto has been service straight from the heart,” Daag said. He always handled social services and health works helping his constituents.
