The Petzl RopeTrip, in partnership and hosted by Habagat Outdoor Equipment, launched the Philippine series on Thursday, November 28 at the Metro Sports Center, Salinas Drive, Lahug, Cebu City.

The said activity is a 3-day event which will end on Saturday, November 30.

The Petzl RopeTrip is an international event that was created in France on 2012. It is an activity that aims to bring professionals from the rope access community to engage in various activities that concern their profession. It serves as an avenue for individuals and groups to immerse themselves into the international community and develop their knowledge and skills pertaining to rope access. With Habagat being one of the prime distributors of Petzl in the country and its effort to bring the experience locally, Petzl RopeTrip Philippine Series 2019 is made possible.

“Basically, our intention here is to really enhance the skill of rope access technicians. These are the guys doing high rise cleanings and installations,” said Eduardo Solana, General Manager, Habagat Outdoor Equipment, Inc.

Solana revealed that 2 team winners will represent the Philippines in the upcoming International Petzl RopeTrip Competition on April.

Solana also expressed his joy saying that this is such a promising event.

“I think this is a very remarkable event, a historic one since it is the first time here in the Philippines,” Solana added.

Meanwhile, Jonathan How of Singapore, Technical Advisor for the Singapore Rope Access Association (SRAA), spoke and demonstrated certain rope access safety measures and techniques.

Jay Chen, Director of Chiao, Taiwan Technical Rope Rescue Competition also shared about Technical Rope Rescue.

On November 28, a Memorandum of Intent (MOI) was signed by representatives of the Taiwan Rope Access Association, Singapore Rope Access Association, Indonesia Rope Access Association and Malaysia Rope Access Association.

The signing event was also spearheaded by Eduardo Solana which happened to be the Chairman of the Philippine Professional Rope Access Technicians Association (PPRATA). The night served as an initiative to strengthen alliance between Asian rope access associations and to promote the mutual interest of the parties, particularly in training for professional competence and continual improvement of effectiveness in industrial rope access, process, and procedures.

On November 29, a whole day was intended for the Petzl RopeTrip competition proper.

Participants will then proceed to Golden Prince Hotel & Suites for the awarding on November 30. (MLC)
