SafeSpacesPH to Launch in Cebu

LoveYourself Inc. will launch their program called SafeSpacesPH on Friday, November 29, at the LoveYourself White House.

SafeSpacesPH is an app by LoveYourself that can be downloaded in Google Play Store and Apple App Store for free. It helps young adults find the nearest establishments offering free condoms and water-based lubricants.

Officers of the Department of Health Central Visayas (DOH)-7 and Cebu City Health Office will be present during the launching event.

SafeSpacesPH, in partnership with DOH, was first launched in the Greater Manila Area when the White House open in April 2019 and became the first SafeSpaces partner in this city.

“We aim to bring two of the three components of the Triangle of Self-Care to everyone. With SafeSpaces, we address safe and satisfying sex, and correct and consistent condom use,” said Robin Avorque, Program Officer for SafeSpaces PH.

Jan Estrada, head of LoveYourself Cebu, highlighted the importance of the project to Cebuanos. “There are several reasons why people have no access to condoms and lubricants. We want to somehow bridge that gap. We want to tell our Cebuano young adults that there’s nothing wrong with getting condoms and lubricants. We’re giving it for free to empower them to care for themselves.”

Central Visayas has the fourth-highest number of HIV cases in the country. In July 2019 alone, there are 93 new HIV cases diagnosed. Nationwide, there are 35 new cases diagnosed per day. (MLC)
