Bong Go Aids Fire Victims in Cebu City
Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go on Friday, November 8 aided over 500 fire victim families from 3 barangay in Cebu City.
Go, who was in Leyte to witness the groundbreaking ceremony of housing projects for typhoon Yolanda victims, went directly to the Plaza Sugbo (vicinity of Cebu City Hall) to personally sympathize with the victims and distribute financial assistance and other goods.
“Ako dili ko ka agwanta magpabugnaw rako sulod sa senado unya kamo diri naglisud, nanginanglan ug tabang. Bisag asa mo nga parte sa Pilipinas, kuhita lang ko kay tabangan tamo (I cannot stand to just sit in the Senate and witness our fellow Filipino people suffer. It doesn’t matter where you live, just call me and I will be there to help you),” Go said.
526 families from Barangay Mambaling, Basak San Nicolas and San Roque received cash assistance from Senator Go.
“Naa tay hinabang financial, grocery packs ug ang uniform sa mga bata nga nasunogan, kita nay mupalit ana (We will give the victims financial assistance, grocery packs and we will also shoulder the students’ uniforms),” Go said.
Victims will also receive several assistance from National Housing Authority (NHA), Department of Social Welfare Development (DSWD), Department of Health (DOH), Department of Trade and Industries (DTI), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) and Land Transportation Office (LTO).
Families were also starstrucked when two of the Senator’s friend, action stars Phillip Salvador and Robin Padilla performed at the stage to interact and entertain them.
“Abi ninyu, kausa rata muagi aning kalibutan mao ng himoon nato ang bisag unsang pamaagi nga makatabang ta (We only live once so we have to do what we have to do to help people),” Go said. (MLC)
