Two weeks after the radio icon and Talisay City councilor Julian “Teban” Daan passed away, the local government of Talisay City is on the process of looking for Daan’s permanent replacement in the city council.

As of now, Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas has already started seeking for consultations from councilors and department heads about the said replacement.

Vice Mayor Alan Bucao said that they will show their full support to whoever the party will pick as a replacement for the late Julian Daan.

“As far as the council is concerned, kung kinsa man gani ang preference itudlo sa partido buot mi nga musuporta (As far as the council is concerned, the party will support anyone who is appointed to replace Julian Daan),” Bucao said.

Bucao also said that the council suggested that it could be better if the replacement will come from the family.

“Pero wala hinuon nawagtang ang among recommendation nga unta kung mahimo it should come from the family, para na lang sad tawon tabang nila ba (We recommend that if possible, it should come from the family primarily to also help them),” Bucao added.

Based on the directive of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), city councilors, the vice mayor and the mayor’s job is only to recommend someone to replace a deceased councilor to the governor.

Only the governor has the power to appoint.

Meanwhile, Bucao said that the replacement will likely to happen after the 40 days of Daan’s death.

“Mao na gi ingon sa uban pod nga mga konsehales nga kun mahimo inig human na lang sa 40 diaz (days) kay mao na na atong na andan sad isip Pilipino (Other councilors suggested that if possible, the replacement should be done after the 40 days of Daan’s death since it is our tradition),” Bucao said.

Daan passed away last August 21, 2019 due to medical condition.
