Cebu City Government Creates “Task Force Baha”
After a massive flood that occurred in some parts of Cebu City on September 1, Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella is creating a task force that will focus on flood control.
“I am constrained to create a task force to immediately make an evaluation study for this flood control program,” Labella said.
The Inter Agency Task Force on Flooding (IATF) includes Cebu City government, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW).
IATF will implement the P1.5 billion flood control funds to be used on flood control programs.
“The city has P1.5 billion flood control fund but this was not used by the previous administration, now we have that fund, we have realized the immediate need to implement the flood control program of the city,” Labella said.
Florida Nuñez, head of the 1st engineering district of DPWH said that there is a P1.2 billion flood control project being constructed in Tejero river and Butuanon river in Cebu City.
Meanwhile, Atty. June Maratas, focal person of IATF said that they will have to observe and compare the drainage master plans of the DPWH and DEPW.
One of Labella’s top priority as mayor of Cebu City is the strict implementation of clean-up drives.
The Cebu City government is calling out volunteers to take part on the upcoming clean-up drive at Mahiga creek. (MLC)
