The Office of the Civil Defense in Central Visayas (OCD-7) called out all Local Government Units (LGUs) to conduct their own disaster preparation activities and programs in their area.

Civil Defense Office IV Engr. Ver Balaba said that by conducting disaster preparation activities and programs, there will be less casualties or none at all.

Balaba said that every LGU should maximize their own operation centers to monitor the weather.

Proper training of rescuers, careful planning and right execution and implementation will be considered as an “effective” disaster preparedness.

OCD-7 and certain LGUs will focus on areas which are prone to landslide and flood and other natural calamities that may threaten one’s life.

Balaba said that every citizen should also be observant about their surroundings to contribute in disaster preparation.

“Sa mga citizens pod dapat magpakabana sad sila,” Balaba said.

OCD-7 pushes their information dissemination through proper coordination, social media visibility and text blasts.

Meanwhile, OCD-7 is currently conducting a close monitoring about the sudden weather change in the region where it suddenly rains and eventually the extreme heat of the sun comes out after. (MLC)
