DOTr Launches a Program for PUV Drivers
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) in partnership with Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) launched the “Tsuper Iskolar” program at the IEC Convention Center Cebu (IC3) on Friday, July 5.
“Tsuper Iskolar” is a nationwide program which aims to help Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators that are affected by the PUV Modernization Program.
The program includes actual lessons and training on how the modernization program works and fundamentals of modern PUVs.
In Cebu, around a thousand drivers and operators attended the program to support the National Government’s move to modernize PUVs.
The National Government allocated P350 million for this program.
Applicants for the “Tsuper Iskolar” Program will be given P350 daily food and transportation allowance for their 35 days training.
Meanwhile, LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra said that the program will help the drivers to be more credible and effective.
Drivers who are not interested to avail the program will be given the chance to participate on other alternative livelihood programs like how to start a small business.
Wives of PUV drivers can also avail other programs like Bread and Pastry making lessons and more.
“We would also like our transport operators and drivers to modernize their lives through improved skills,” DOTr Undersecretary Mark Richmund De Leon said.
The “Tsuper Iskolar” program started in Lingayen, Pangasinan on April. (MLC)
