NNC-7 to Launch Nutrition Month Through Physical Activities

The National Nutrition Council in Central Visayas (NNC)-7 will launch the Nutrition Month on July 1 through various types of physical activities to help people maintain a healthy mind and body.

The launching will be held at the Cube Wing of SM Seaside City Cebu.

This year, Nutrition Month’s theme is “Kumain ng wasto at maging aktibo, push natin to (Eat healthy and do physical activities, let’s push this)”.

The theme primarily encourages all Filipinos to be physically active to avoid different kinds of diseases.

Meanwhile, Dr. Parolita Mission, Regional Head of the Regional Nutrition Program Coordinators (RNPC) said that the numbers of Filipinos that are obese increased especially in Cebu Province and people should engage to any physical activity at least 1 hour per day.

“Nag increase gyud ang mga obese ilabi na diri sa Cebu Province, so kinahanglan gyud nga naay exercise bisag 1 hour a day lang, any kind of physical activity, pasingot gyud,” Dr. Mission said.

The event will be open through a Nutri-fun walk from the San Pedro Calungsod Chapel to the Cube Wing of SM Seaside.

Nutrition Month 2019 highlights 2 major events, the Amazing Nutri Race and Move-Eat Fair.

The Amazing Nutri Race allows participants to complete 6 different challenges including the “Pinggang Pinoy” and various types of physical activities like basketball, bowling, archery, rope skipping, relay and many more.

On the other hand, the Move-Eat Fair features different types of exercise and diet planning.

Participants of the Move-Eat Fair will also have the chance to join certain physical activities like boxing, zumba, dance classes and yoga.

Participants are secondary students from 6 different schools in Metro Cebu.

The event also offers nutrition assessment and counseling to people who wanted to learn proper diet and to avoid diseases brought by being overweight.

Nutrition Month is mandated by the law under Presidential Decree 491 of 1974 and is observed every month of July to promote awareness on the importance of nutrition among Filipinos. (MLC)
