3,000 Seeds Planted in Naga City’s Arbor Day
Around 3,000 seeds were planted during the “Run2Plant” activity in line with the City of Naga’s Arbor Day in Barangay Pangdan, Alpaco and Sindulan on Saturday, June 15.
The location of the tree planting activity was the ground zero of the landslide that happened september last year.
Arbor Day 2019 was themed “Plant a Tree, Build a Healthy Community” and was organized by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO).
Arbor Day, or tree planting day is conducted every 3rd saturday of the month of June based on the city’s ordinance to promote environmental stability and development, said Jehan Repollo, Environmental Officer in the City of Nag
The activity promotes mental, physical and environmental health.
Members of the Cebu Port Authority(CPA), Philippine Coast Guard(PCG), Philippine National Police(PNP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology(BJMP), Department of Education(DepEd), employees of the Naga City Hall representatives from private establishment joined the activity.
Participants enjoyed a fun run and proceeded to the said Barangays to help plant bamboo, kalachuchi, narra and mahogany trees.
Repollo said that the Apo Land and Quarry Corp. sponsored the seedlings to be planted.
However, Repollo also pointed out that they are currently rehabilitating the ground zero since they are planning to make it a memorial park to commemorate the victims of the landslide.
The “Run2Plant” 2019 is also part of the Philippine Environment Month this year.
Meanwhile, this coming September 2019 another set of activities will be conducted for the water conservation month. (MLC)
