DENR Urges People to Plant More Trees
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Central Visayas (DENR)-7 urged the public to plant more trees to preserve nature.
Eduaro Inting, Assistant Regional Director of DENR-7 said that planting more trees can bring vast development to environment.
“Sukad pag sulod nako sa DENR mao na ni akong trabaho, tungod kay nakit-an nato unsa ka mahinungdanon ang pagtanom ug kahoy, pananglitan kanang init duna tay pasilongan unya gawas ana maka pugong pa sa baha and more importantly ang kabugnaw kay mag release man gud ni siya ug oxygen (Since I started working for the DENR, planting trees was my job. Trees can be used for temporary shelter in case of extreme sun exposure, it can also be used to prevent floods and more importantly it can bring fresh air because it releases oxygen) ,” Inting said.
Presidential Decree 1153 of 1977 however, requires every citizen of the Philippines to plant 1 tree every month for five consecutive years.
Inting also suggested the concerned sector to review and develop the said law.
“I would request the congress to look into the presidential decree 1153 because there is now a law requiring the planting of trees,” Inting said.
Inting called out every individual to start planting trees on their own way and to not depend on the law.
“We would also encourage everybody, not only because of the bill, to do the planting on their own,” Inting said.
The moment the National Government will push the mandatory planting of trees of every individual, DENR can perhaps supply the seedling requirements.
Inting pointed out that schools can even raise their own seedlings using plastic cups and to maximize educational aspects in every school.
“Daghang pamaagi ang schools to contribute, pwede ang biology class, clubs and other programs”, Inting said. (MLC)
