Mall Workers Volunteer to Spruce up School in San Pablo City
Scores of mall workers from SM City San Pablo together with thousands of parents, students, teachers, alumni, and local civic and business groups rolled up their sleeves to make sure that the classrooms in various public schools are spick and span in time for the opening of the new school year.
SM City San Pablo Mall Manager Eve Verzola told PNA on Tuesday that this demonstration of the spirit of volunteerism is part of their company’s corporate social responsibility program themed “Brigada Eskwela 2019: Strengthening Partnership for Quality Education.”
Verzola said this is also in support of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Brigada theme this year of “Matatag na Bayan para sa Maunlad na Paaralan,” which is a campaign that emphasizes the importance of everybody’s contribution in providing the Filipino youth better education through a school environment that is conducive to learning.
She said that SM’s management has chosen San Joaquin Elementary School as its school partner this year. The mall workers’ campus cleanup undertaking has been well-received by city folks, she added.
“We’re grateful to DepEd for allowing SM San Pablo to give our time, ourselves to improve the learning environment of these kids, the youth attending San Joaquin Elementary School, who will be our future leaders of this beautiful City of San Pablo,” remarked SM City San Pablo Public Relations Manager Nina Wong.
She said employees took time off from their work at the mall to volunteer their services in armchair painting, room repainting, gardening, mural painting, and room repairs.
Verzola added that the mall team’s goal was to accomplish the chores so that newly painted and clean classrooms, well-maintained teaching materials, and attractive green landscape could inspire students to go to school when classes open in June 3. (PNA)
