Teacher-Scholars Celebrated Success

Teacher-scholars of the STEP UP (The Best, Teach) scholarship celebrated their success as they finally saw the fruit of their labor.

The celebration event was held at Tandang Sora Hall in Cebu Normal University.

Teachers, teacher-scholars and even students took part in the celebration to show their support for the scholarship.

STEP UP scholarship is a teacher education program in the Philippines made by the Philippine Business for Education (PBEd) and funded by the Australian Government.

The program’s primary goal is to make the education in the country more efficient by producing excellent and competitive teachers for public schools.

“Through this program, we can modernize the education in the country to produce high quality students as well”, said H.E. Steven Robinson, AO, Australian Ambassador to the Philippines.

“We need to equip our students with these 21st century skills and capabilities like collaboration, creativity, critical thinking and ensure that they are enable to apply them in real life,” Robinson added.

Meanwhile, PBEd Executive Director Love Basillote said that by bringing different partners, the program will be more successful.

“If we attract the best and the brightest into the teaching profession, we can raise a cohort of competent and committed teachers,” Basillote said.

Cebu Normal University, PBEd’s partner school in Central Visayas already produced 104 scholars to-date.

STEP UP is also part of the “Philippines-Australia Friendship” Celebration.

On the same day before the celebration in CNU, H.E. Robinson also participated in a dragon boat race in the vicinity of IL Corso in South Road Properties (SRP), Cebu City. (MLC)
