Public School Kids Need Donations of Tables, Chairs, School Supplies

As Brigada Eskwela or the National Schools Maintenance Week is about to end and classes to begin June 3, the Department of Education (DepEd) is calling on kind-hearted individuals, groups or institutions to share notebooks, used tables and chairs and other items that can be used in classrooms by pupils.

“We particularly lack chairs and teachers’ tables, and we welcome donations from good-hearted people to help our children,” said DepEd Zamboanga City Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Oliver Talaoc during a press conference at the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) here.

The lack of these items is usually common in the rural areas.

“We are especially calling business establishments that have chairs or tables that they no longer use,” said Talaoc.

Interested persons, groups or companies that would like to donate may approach school principals or visit the DepEd Division office in Baliwasan Chico.

“You can donate any time of the year, not just during the Brigada Eskwela week,” clarified Talaoc.

He ensures that all donations will be properly documented.

Brigada Eskwela kicked off May 20 and will run until May 25. Teachers, parents and various groups participated in this annual school clean-up and maintenance drive.

“We are very happy that everyone has become partners in the children’s education,” Talaoc added. (ALT/DIS/PIA9-Zamboanga City)
