Cebu City Eyes Waste-to-Energy Facility
The Cebu City Government eyes to establish a waste-to-energy (WTE) facility to maximize the industrial capability of the city.
Head of Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CCENRO) Nida Cabrera, explained that putting up a WTE is indeed a strategic move and a good investment.
Cabrera said that by putting a WTE in the city, it can guarantee that garbage will be disposed properly and she also pointed out that this is the perfect time to come up with a new technology since the city doesn’t have its own landfill zone.
Meanwhile, Cebu City Mayor-elect Edgar Labella said that he still needs to review the documents before he can start to decide and implement the said project.
Labella will take office on June 30 with his running mate Vice Mayor Michael Rama.
Cabrera said that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) already submitted certain recommendation documents to the Office of the Mayor and they allocated a P40 million research budget to the Cebu City government.
WTE facility is a facility that convert garbage into energy resources and it could be a substantial benefit for the city.
Garbage coming from Cebu City is currently being dumped in the Consolacion dumpsite since the Inayawan landfill was ordered to close by the court. (MLC)
