P8 Minimum Jeep Fare Starts Today

Published

on

Starting today, May 8, the minimum fare for Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJs) in Central Visayas is P8 from the previous P6.50 minimum fare.

The fare increase is through the Board Resolution No. 072, series of 2019 and was approved by The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on April 24 signed by LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra III, OIC Executive Director Ronaldo Corpus and Board Member Antonio Gardiola Jr.

The fare increase was requested by the 1-United Transport Koalisyon (1-UTAK) from the board.

The request letter cited certain concerns like constant increase in diesel prices and increase in the price of vehicle spare parts.

The LTFRB also found out that PUJs in Central Visayas didn’t have fare increase since 2016 despite the constant increase on diesel prices.

LTFRB-7 Regional Director Eduardo Montealto said that the increase in the latest minimum fare may be raised or lowered back to it’s current fare anytime depending on it’s assessment.

PUJ operators who has already acquired the new fare tariffs may start implementing the new minimum fare today.

However, Montealto added that even the new minimum fare is P1.50 greater than the previous rate, the P0.90 for each succeeding kilometer of travel will still be the same. (MLC)
