SMART Reminds Subscribers About HOAX Text Messages

SMART communications issued a statement regarding the hoax text messages about earthquakes that subscribers are receiving.

Due to recent earthquakes that hit the Philippines, these hoax messages may cause panic among Filipinos.

SMART communications reminds subscribers that emergency alerts will only come from sender “NDRRMC” and not from unknown numbers.

SMART also said that by law, only the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) is the only government agency that is authorized to issue public emergency alerts and relays its message to telcos to be broadcast to subscribers.

These hoax text messages can be reported at the website of National Telecommunication Commission (NTC) at http://ntc.gov.ph. (ASC)
