NYD 2019 Opening Peaceful

The opening of the National Youth Day 2019 on Wednesday (April 24) was successful and the introduction program welcomed the pilgrims from all over the Philippines.

After the activity in the CCSC, the procession started along with four chariots carrying the image of San Pedro Calungsod, San Jose, Our Lady of Guadalupe and Snr. Sto. Niño going to Basilica Minore Del Santo Niño de Cebu.

Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma led the opening mass and during the homily he reminded everyone that it is up to a person to be moral and righteous despite the existence of temptation.

Palma added, that the resurrection of Christ is an apparent sign that Christ is alive and he sacrificed his life for the love for his people.

The mass ended with the traditional Sinulog dance so the pilgrims can witness the devotion of Snr. Sto. Niño.

Meanwhile, Police Regional Office-7 director Debold Sinas said that over 40,000 attended the said activity including pilgrims, devotee and peacekeepers.

On the other hand, the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) is currently preparing for the next activity of NYD tomorrow (April 27) which is the Pilgrim Walk.

CCTO operations chief Francisco Ouano said that there will be a road closure from the vicinity of Capitol site to CCSC from 2 in the afternoon until the activity is done.

150 traffic enforcers will assist motorists during the events. (MLC)
