Mother Knows Best For Weight Loss Tips
Remember when your mother told you to get to sleep? Or to slow down and chew? Or how about her insisting on everything in moderation? It turns out that she was right about all those things.
Tristaca Curley, a registered dietitian and a mother herself, is known for her advice on fuelingwithfood.com – and she says that following your mom’s sage counsel is key to better overall health and weight management, as follows:
Get more sleep: When trying to lose weight, don’t cut down on your Zs. A healthy night’s sleep ensures that you keep high energy levels and your metabolism revving. Conversely, not getting enough sleep can affect your mood and increase your cravings for unhealthy foods.
Eat more slowly: If you spend less than 60 minutes a day eating, chances are you are eating too fast. It takes 20 minutes for our brains to know that we’ve eaten and to register when we are full. Mindful eating—or doing it with intention and attention—allows you to enjoy eating more, while eating less.
Everything in moderation: There’s no reason to give up your favorites when trying to lose weight. Allowing yourself to indulge from time to time can actually help you stay on track. Instead of depriving yourself, give yourself permission to eat only the foods that you really love and aim for a small portion. Love soda pop? Curley suggests choosing diet versions of your favorite beverage or opting for Coke mini-cans, which offer smaller portion sizes.
