The Rise and Rebuild International Foundation (RRIF), together with the Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), led the groundbreaking ceremony of a communal latrine facility in Barangay Balud, Dalaguete town on Wednesday.

PDRRMO’s Rehabilitation, Recovery and Reconstruction Division Head Fe S. Montano, led the event along with representatives from Provincial Engineering Office (PEO), Dalaguete OIC-Mayor Jeffrey Belciña and Balud village chief Maridel Castanos.

RRIF representative Bro. Rey Goodson, said the event is among the collaborative project between the Latter Day Saints (LDS) and the Cebu Provincial Government.

Goodson said they will continue to help build communal toilet that will prevent the spread of diseases within the sanitation system.

During the groundbreaking ceremony held in Balud Elementary School, Goodson presented the goal and plan of the LDS for the community which includes building more latrines.

The foundation is truly thankful to the Provincial Government for being so supportive to our project, and they seem to follow us wherever we go,” Goodson said.

“Our goal to improve the quality of life of the community, and we plan to build more in other towns,” Goodson added.

Balud elementary school principal Vicente Obiedo said he is grateful to the foundation and promised the donors that they will take good care of the facility.

“In behalf of the teachers and students, I would like to thank the Cebu Provincial Government, Governor Hilario P. Davide III, Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, our donors Mr. Rey Goodson for this wonderful project. And we promise to take good care of the facility. We will keep it clean and presentable all the time.” he said.

A community-managed latrine has the same technical similarities to individual latrines. The same design was built in Barangay Gaas and Barangay Sunog in Balamban town in August last year.

RRIF is one of the many foundations who helped the Province since the aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda. They also sponsored water facilities and nutrition centers around the countryside.
