DPWH-7 to Rebuild PHP60-M South Cebu Town Bridge Destroyed by Flood
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Region 7 will rebuild the Dumlog Bridge in Sibonga town in southern Cebu which was destroyed by a flood at the height of a typhoon two years ago.
Engineer Nonie Paylado, DPWH 7 chief of planning and design, said the PHP60-million funding for the rebuilding of the bridge will be taken from calamity funds.
Paylado said DPWH may be able to start the construction of the PHP60-million permanent bridge in the first quarter of 2017 because the funds for the project were already released.
The DPWH central office has allocated about PHP60 million for the reconstruction of the concrete bridge.
Paylado said the project will first undergo public bidding.
The 18-meter approach to the Dumlog bridge collapsed and was washed away during a flash flood caused by tropical storm Seniang in December 2014.
Due to the flood’s impact, the rip-rapped soil and rocks that formed part of the road were also washed away.
The damage on the approaches of the bridge isolated eight southern Cebu towns, prompting the DPWH to construct a temporary steel bailey bridge on top of the damaged bridge. (PNA)LAP/EB/EDS
