Alegria Showcases Organic Produce
Natural root crops, fruits and vegetables, fish meats were paraded in Alegria town during the 1st Organic Congress held at the town’s Heritage Park on Wednesday.
Mayor Verna Magallon said she plans to have organic produce regularly to supply the growing needs of organic products to the whole province.
“Kining atong gibuhat karun maoy unang lakang para sa katumanan sa dugay na nakong pangandoy nga unta ang Alegria maka –produce og mga organic products ug maka-supply sa panginahanglan dili lang sa atoang probinsiya, kundi sa tibuok nasud,” said Magallon.
Alegria was recently awarded the Gawad Saka award by the Department of Agriculture (DA) 7 for its contribution in working towards the realization of DA’s vision of a food-secured and food self-sufficient nation.
Aside from untreated food products, the congress also showcased local furniture products and souvenir items made out of bamboo. These materials were handcrafted by elementary students of the town.
Seventh district board member Christopher “Dong” Baricuatro expressed salutation to Alegria residents for having the organic fair saying ‘the first of its kind not only in the province but the whole region 7.”
“Garbo sa mga Alegriahanon nga maoy unang nakapahigayun sa in-aning event sa tibouk rehiyun 7 ug mapaabut ninyo nga ang atong Gobernador inubanan sa atong Bise Gobernador ug sa mga bokal ang kinatibuk-ang suporta,” he said.
The trade fair was assisted by the Agriculture Training Center (ATI) with the participation of St. Peter Academy of Alegria Foundation Incorporated (SPAAFI), Compostela Farmers Association (COMFA), Valencia Inghoy Farmers Association (VIFA), Guadalupe Farmers Association (GUFA), Mag-uumang Lumolupyo sa Montpeiler (MALUMO) and Lipantohanong Hugpong sa Kalambuan (LIHOK).
Moreover, Magallon said that 12 tourist destinations of the town will be launched during the Miss Tourism pageant that will be held on December 3, in time for the town’s fiesta celebration. (Chad Cordova Bacolod)
