Mactan-Cebu Airport Welcomes AirAsia’s Two New International Routes

GMR-MEGAWIDE Cebu Airport Corp., (GMCAC), the private company managing the Terminal operations and other related areas of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport, welcomes today, the inaugural flights of budget carrier Philippines’ Air Asia as they officially launch two new international routes in a move to boost its Cebu hub.

AirAsia opens a thrice weekly (Wed, Fri, and Sun) Cebu-Taipei route and a four times weekly (Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun) Cebu-Singapore route.

It also means more job opportunities, more income for families, more food on the table and more economic activities,” said Philippines AirAsia’s Director for Flight Operations Captain Monreal Gomer.

AirAsia will depart from Cebu at 6:10AM, arriving Taipei at 9:00am. The return flight departs Taipei on the same day at 10:10 am and arrives in Cebu at 1:00PM. These flights will utilize an A320 aircraft with 180 all-economy class seats.

Meanwhile, AirAsia’s Flight Z2 7236 departs Cebu at 16:55 and arrives Singapore at 20:30. The return flight, Z2 7237 departs Singapore at 21:10 and arrives Cebu the following day at 00:55.

The two new routes mark AirAsia’s third and fourth international destinations from MCIA following their daily flight from Cebu to Incheon, and four times weekly flight from Cebu to Kuala Lumpur.

The airline company has over 120 destinations cross Asean, Asia, India, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East and Africa.

GMCAC Chief Commercial Adviser, Ravishankar Saravu noted that more international routes from MCIA serve to benefit the entire travel market by giving them more selections according to their airline of choice.

The Mactan-Cebu International Airport is currently serving a total of 13 international destinations from its 19 partner airline carriers.

Linking MCIA to more international destinations is a significant achievement for Cebu. It will drive inbound tourism, drive foreign investment, and open up new markets that will boost trade.” said GMCAC President, Louis Ferrer.

Ferrer said GMCAC will work to increase connectivity to more global destinations in time for the opening of a new international passenger terminal, thus establishing MCIA as one of the world’s leading airport and Cebu as a top destination.
