Seniors Participate in City “Elderlympics”
Antipolo City, Rizal – Some 500 seniors of Antipolo City showcased their athleticism during the “Elderlympics” held earlier this month at the Ynares Center.
The activity initiated by the Antipolo City Office of the Senior Citizen Affairs (OSCA) aims to promote health and serve as a recreational activity through having local seniors participate in several games and physical activities.
OSCA provided a total P120,000 worth of prizes for winners in various games.
In a statement, Antipolo City Mayor Casimiro “Jun” Ynares III said senior citizens have been seen as institutions in the Filipino family.
“In return for caring for the younger generation, it is the city’s turn to care for them,” he added.
The local government also extends other services and privileges to senior citizens such as free movie viewing in malls on Mondays and free birthday cakes during their birthdays. (GG/PIA-Rizal with reports from Antipolo PIO)
