DPWH Prepares Roads for All Saints’ Day; Reactivates ‘Lakbay Alalay’ Program

All national highways, more importantly those leading to public and private cemeteries are now being cleared from obstructions and potholes by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in preparation for the observance of All Saints’ Day.

This is one of the programs of all DPWH maintenance offices nationwide, to ensure safety of huge volume of motorists expected to flock major roads this coming long weekend.

As early as October 14, DPWH Regional Offices (ROs) and District Engineering Offices (DEOs) have implemented various highway routine maintenance activities on major routes which include regravelling, road, bridge, shoulder, drainage, and vegetation control maintenance, including traffic service maintenance particularly the provision of proper informative/regulatory warning signs or traffic advisory.

DPWH ROs and DEOs will also reactivate its motorist assistance program dubbed as “Lakbay Alalay” starting 5:00 p.m. on October 28, 2016 until a 12:00 noon of November 2, 2016. Hundreds of “Lakbay Alalay” teams will be deployed nationwide along strategic locations to aid the travelling public round-the-clock.

These teams shall assist roadside concerns of motorists joining the All Saints’ Day rush. They shall also coordinate with the Land Transportation Office, Philippine National Police, and officials of local government units if they require assistance from the maintenance teams of the DPWH, likewise if DPWH necessitates their services.

Early coordination with ongoing roadwork contractors will also be made by DPWH implementing offices to guarantee that proper scheduling of road works and installation of necessary traffic advisory.
