Cops Who Flunk Firearms Proficiency Test to be Issued Bolos – PRO 7 Chief
Chief Superintendent Noli Talino, Police regional Office (PRO) 7 director, on Tuesday said policemen in Central Visayas who will flunk the firearms proficiency test will be disarmed and issued bolos instead.
“We will train them, but if they flunk the firearms proficiency training, we’ll issue them bolos,” Talino said.
But Talino said many police personnel in the region are sharpshooters, among them, those who are assigned in the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams.
Talino said they will conduct periodic firearms proficiency tests for all of the 7,274 police personnel under PRO 7 on order of Philippine National Police Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.
Dela Rosa, in his first ever visit to PRO 7, said it should be the police who will remain standing and the criminal who should die in a shootout.
Dela Rosa issued the statement as President Rodrigo Duterte announced a relentless war against illegal drugs in the country.
Talino said those who will flunk in the firearms proficiency test will undergo marksmanship training.
He said is important for every police personnel to be proficient in handling firearms for his own safety and to keep the public from harm. (PNA) LAP/EB/EDS
