Capitol Showcases Livelihood Progs in Advocacy Fair

The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office implements sustainable livelihood projects in line with Davide administration’s thrust to improve the lives of marginalized sectors.

These projects include bag-making, mat-weaving, food-processing, hog-raising and sawali production, among others.

Women, the elderly, farmers, fisherfolks, persons with disabilities and single parents are the target beneficiaries of the said projects.

Selected community enterprises make use of materials abundant in their respective areas and turn them into mats, bags, fashion accessories, health drinks, processed fruits, and delicacies.

Organized by Cebu Chamber of Commerce, People Management Association of the Philippines, Rotary Clubs of Cebu and Ayala Center Cebu, Advocacy Fair brought together 19 non-government organizations (NGOs) pushing better life for marginalized sectors including women and children.

Two other exhibitors advocate better family life for children and teenagers of poor families.

One exhibitor is Magone Home in Liloan town, an aftercare facility for young men out of prison.

Enfants du Mekong, a French NGO, also put up an exhibit of their advocacy in helping children and teenagers from poor families study to get a stable job after graduation.

Another exhibitor is Water and Life Philippines, a non-profit organization that helps provide water supply in urban depressed areas through its partner small-scale water operator Tubig Pag-asa.

Legal Alternatives for Women (LAW), Inc. was also part of the Advocacy Fair displaying their advocacy on the fight against violence against women and children.

LAW Inc. provides legal alternatives and assistance to women and children who are victims of sexual abuse, harassment, human trafficking and rape. (by Fides Palicte)
