Student Leaders, Educators Join Cebu Capitol’s Anti-Drug Orientation
Hundreds of student leaders and educators on Monday joined the Cebu provincial government’s orientation in the fight against illegal drugs, particularly in schools.
More than 323 participants, including 160 Supreme Student Government (SSG) officers and 163 advisers from different high schools of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Cebu gathered at the Cebu Capitol social hall to support the provincial government’s Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD) program.
Manuel de los Santos, psychologist and consultant of the Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Office (CPADAO), said the student leaders are the provincial government’s main allies in the fight against drugs, especially in schools.
The BKD program also aims to teach students how to avoid drugs and how to help create drug-free schools.
It taps the capability of the SSG officers to formulate a plan of action to prevent the entry of illegal drugs in their ranks.
“We believe they are the backbone, especially of the country’s future, that’s why we have to keep them away from illegal drugs,” de los Santos said.
Ivy Carmen Durano-Meca, CPADAO chief, stressed the role of the students and youth in the advocacy against illegal drugs.
“They can help through education prevention program. They will lead in their schools in terms of this cause,” she said. (PNA) CVL/EB/EDS
