The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA-7) will implement skills training programs to the barangays even to the isolated communities in the region.

TESDA-7 regional director Florencio Sunico, Jr. said that this is the new direction of the new administration to reach the grassroots through the Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs for poverty reduction.

TESDA is now implementing this flagship program entitled, “Barangay Kasanayan Para Sa Kabuhayan at Kapayapaan” which is to identify the training needs of every barangay.

“There is an on-going survey in the barangay level to identify its training needs so that TESDA could prepare a training program based on the needs of the constituents,” said Sunico.

This is under TVET for Social Equity based on the universal principle of social inclusion, places and people particularly those who are socially excluded and displaced such as informal workers, farmers, fisherfolks, indigenous people, drug dependents or surrenderees, rebel returnees, OFWs, women victims of abuse and human trafficking and persons with disabilities (PWDs).

Sunico said this program is for the community development which is to expand the training program through mobile, entrepreneurship, and many others to prepare these people for employment.

This program use community-driven approach to training delivery and continuous consultations and collaboration at the grassroots levels with other government agencies.

It will be area-specific, resource-based, flexible, holistic, product and service oriented. Sunico said, this will serve as a driving force for change and upliftment of the lives of the Filipino people, contributing to the socio-economic development of our country.

Sunico was guest during the recent Association of Government Information Officers (AGIO) and Philippine Information Agency (PIA) held at the PIA-7 Regional Office at Gorordo Avenue, Cebu City.(mbcn/hfg/AGIO-PIA7 Forum)
