Cebu Provincial Jail Acting Warden Resigns After Series of Controversies
Jail Warden Romeo Manansala of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) resigned Tuesday as acting jail warden.
Manansala handed his resignation letter to Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III shortly before noon Tuesday.
The CPDRC was lately hounded by a series of controversies, including the discovery of illegal drugs and other contraband during a predawn surprise raid at the facility on Saturday.
Cebu Vice Governor Agnes Magpale said they received reports of “conjugal room” inside the jail operated for rent, raising of gamecocks inside the jail and many others.
Manansala said he resigned since his term already lapsed and he would give way to other jail guards to assume his post.
But Manansala clarified he only quit his post as acting jail warden and not his current job as assistant warden.
He said he quit his post as acting warden due to health reasons and not because of last Sunday dawn’s raids that uncovered drugs, cash and contraband within the CPDRC cells.
Manansala said he has been a jail warden for four years now and has served as a jail official for 35 years at CPDRC.
Davide said Manansala’s resignation will take effect on Friday, Aug. 19.
He will transferred to the Cebu Capitol’s civil security unit. (PNA) RMA/EB/SSC
