Boracay Island, Malay, Aklan — The local government unit of Malay and the private sector in this resort island are eyeing the revival of the environmental summit.

The summit aims to discuss and find solutions to the environmental woes of the world-famous resort island.

Malay Councilor Nette Graf said the summit was supposed to take place last year but did not push through due to national poll preparations.

“The revival of the environmental summit is supported by the Boracay Foundation Incorporated (BFI) and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Boracay who are both willing to serve as secretariat of the event,” said Graf, chairman of the Malay Council Committee on Environment.

“We want it to happen soon. Boracay as an international destination deserves international standards in the protection of environment,” she added.

The Aklan Provincial Government and the Department of Tourism are among other agencies also supporting the said conference.

Meanwhile, a Catholic parish in Boracay is also planning to hold its own advocacy in environmental conservation. (PNA) JMC/AJP/JNAGUIRRE/LPT
