Tornado Hits University Library Building, Nearby Houses in Batac City
The main library building of the state-run Mariano Marcos State University was hit by a tornado on Sunday afternoon, destroying some books, computers and other learning materials while it tore roofs off houses nearby, and overturned a motorcycle.
No one was hurt, said Arvin Lumang of the Batac City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC).
As public storm warning signal number 2 remain hoisted over Ilocos Norte, Gov. Imee Marcos has earlier announced classes in primary schools on Monday are automatically suspended.
Private schools such as the Northwestern University in Laoag City has also issued an advisory suspending classes both in primary and secondary schools.
In Carasi town, a man was rescued from drowning through the quick response of the Piddig Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) rescue team and Carasi town mayor Rene Gaspar at about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
