Free WiFi At NAIA, LRT, MRT And Others
PLDT Incorporated promised free Wi-Fi in 21 major transportation bases within 100 days.
“This was asked by Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade and President Rodrigo Duterte. We had plans already, but they wanted accelerated rollout of Wi-Fi. I said: “Fine, that makes a lot of sense,” said PLDT chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan.
“There is no hidden agenda here… We thank our partner, Smart, for supporting the government’s thrust to make passengers’ travel experience more comfortable, convenient, and connected,” Tugade said.
Tugade added that their agreement with PLDT is not exclusive and that other companies are welcome to offer free Wi-Fi as well.
PLDT executive vice-president Eric Alberto said the speeds will be up to 1 gigabit per access point.
The areas to be given free Wi-Fi are Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) terminals 1, 2, 3, 4, including airports in Davao, Iloilo, Bacolod, Dumaguete, Kalibo, Languindingan, General Santos, Clark, Laoag, Cebu Aklan and Zamboanga. Along with it are both lines of the Light Rail Transit (LRT 1 and LRT 2), the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT 3), and the Batangas and Mindoro Ports.
