Mandaue City to Hike Cash Aid to Seniors by PHP500 to PHP1,000
The Mnadaue City Government is planning to increase the PHP6,000 annual financial assistance to the city’s senior citizens by PHP500 or PHP1,000.
Mandaue City Mayor Gabriel Luis “Luigi” Quisumbing said a total of 15,836 senior citizens in Mandaue are receiving PHP6,000 financial assistance each year from the city government.
The PHP6,000 cash aid took effect this year after the previous council approved last year an ordinance increasing the annual aid for senior citizens from PHP3,000 to PHP6,000.
Quisumbing said he saw the need to increase the financial assistance for the seniors so they will have enough money to use for their medicines.
The mayor said he also intends to increase the assistance for persons with disabilities (PWDs) who are receiving an annual cash assistance of PHP1,000 each from the city.
“For us, we’ll continue to increase the financial assistance as our revenue continues to increase as well to make sure that the needs of our senior citizens, especially our PWDs are well taken care of,” he said.
But Quisumbing said the increase may not take effect this year.
The PHP6,000 cash aid to the senior citizens will be given in three tranches.
The first tranche of PHP2,000 was distributed last May, the second tranche in August and the remaining PHP2,000 will be given in December. (PNA) LAP/EB/EDS
