Dumaguete City (PNA) –- Lantaw Native Restaurant, the latest place to dine in Dumaguete City, the capital of Negros Oriental, has opened its doors to residents and tourists alike, offering Filipino dishes at affordable prices.

Lantaw Dumaguete, the recent addition to the Lantaw restaurant chain, is owned by young Dumaguete-based entrepreneurs Iñaki Yoldi, Rey Larena and Angelique Yoldi.

Asked what makes the place unique, Dok Timbancaya, marketing and communications officer of Lantaw Dumaguete, answered it is the classic, native-flavored Filipino dishes all around the country at affordable rates as well as the ambiance.

Lantaw Dumaguete is also art-conscious, and follows the pattern of the franchise, such as having a jeepney on display at the bar, a classic Filipino scenery painted on the wall above the bar and dozens of “nigo” or native woven baskets plastered on the ceiling.

The restaurant’s location is the best location in the city for it, according to Timbancaya, because it complements the restaurant’s theme focusing on the native.

Lantaw Dumaguete, which debuted June 18 in a week-long opening affair, is situated at corner E.J. Blanco Road and Flores Avenue in Barangay Piapi, with the seaside view providing customers with the perfect backdrop for enjoying their native meal, he pointed out.

Specialty dishes and Lantaw signature dishes include Cordova express (mixed seafood with buko milk, buko meat, and “malunggay” or moringa served in a coconut bowl), ay either be mild or spicy), baked scallops or spicy (sauteed and mixed in sweet chili sauce) and Bakasi (eel) that may be fried or served in a soup or “Larang”, an old Philippine recipe.

The Bakasi dishes are, however, seasonal.

According to Iñaki Yoldi, one of the restaurant owners, they add their own dishes to the menu that may be found in Lantaw Dumaguete.

These would include sizzling mixed seafood, sizzling squid, and sizzling gambas (shrimp).

Yoldi added that they serve jumbo crabs, but it is only seasonal as well.

Lantaw Dumaguete features wide parking spaces, a playground for kids and a reception area for parties.

It also caters to private functions such as weddings, debut and other ceremonies and celebrations.

“Lantaw is not positioning itself as a competitor but a contributor to the development of the culinary district in Dumaguete,” said Dok Timbancaya, when asked what gives Lantaw the edge over other competitors in the food business in this southern Philippines capital.

The restaurant has a maximum seating capacity of 300 with a price range for food at P100 to P100 per dish and is open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Meanwhile, the owners of Lantaw Dumaguete announced they would also be opening in mid-July another business venture, Café Racer, located a stone’s throw away from the native restaurant. (PNA) LAP/JFP
