Surrender of Cebu’s No. 1 Drug Lord Reduces Drug Supply in Danao City, Says Mayor
The surrender and detention of Alvaro “Barok” Derecho Alvaro, Cebu’s suspected Number 1 drug lord, has reduced the illegal drug supply in Danao City, Danao City Mayor Ramon “Nito Durano III said.
Durano said Alvaro controlled the illegal drug trade in Danao City, some 33 kilometers north of Cebu City, and the rest of northern Cebu.
“He is operating as a drug lord for about ten years already and considering the several unsolved killings in Danao City, he is really a menace to peace and order,” Durano said.
Durano gave PHP200,000 as a reward to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for facilitating Alvaro’s surrender.
Durano said the cash reward was allocated in 2014 yet when Alvaro already became notorious for dealing “shabu” or methamphetamine hyrdrochloride.
Durano said the city allocated PHP200,000 cash reward to anyone who can arrest Alvaro in 2014 after he noticed that the city police were reluctant to conduct manhunt against him and the people feared to report his whereabouts.
He said Alvaro was also tagged in the death of his competitors, policemen who wanted to arrest him and drug pushers who failed to remit sales.
The cash reward was received by lawyer Renan Oliva, chief of the NBI in Bohol, where Alvaro surrendered.
Durano also handed the Danao City Council resolution commending the NBI for facilitating the surrender of Alvaro NBI 7 Director Jose Justo Yap. (PNA) LAP/EB/EDS
