Philippine College Of Physicians Opens 46th Annual Convention
The Philippine College of Physicians (PCP) opened on Sunday its three-day 46th Annual Convention at Marriott Grand Ballroom Hotel in New Port City Complex, Pasay City.
The theme for this year convention centers on “empowering the Internists in the Digital Age.”
The three-day convention will last until May 3.
In the opening ceremony, thousands of PCP members from different parts of the country recited the “PCP Honor Code” or “Panatang Karangalan ng PCP.”
The PCP Honor Code contains the specific guidance on the professional undertakings of PCP members. They promise that they will preserve the dignity of their profession in all circumstances, respect their fellow physicians, fellow health workers and others involved in health-related services.
In the same honor code, they also promise not to use the health industry for their personal gain by adhering to honesty and truth at all times and putting the welfare and well-being of their patients at all times.
After the opening ceremony, a plenary session followed, wherein PCP’s Dr. Gabriel V. Jasul discussed about obesity as a silent modern disease.
This was followed by exhibits wherein several pharmaceutical companies showed their products (drugs and equipment) and provided informative materials which physicians can use and advise to their patients as well.
Also, various educational symposia were also opened wherein doctors listened and raised questions related to the common conditions that they encounter among their patients in the treatment of illnesses such as drugs and other medications.
Among the topics discussed in divided sessions were the following:
The use of Betahistine in the treatment of peripheral vertigo by Dr. Teresa Gloria Cruz; Lipitension and its complications by Dr. Gilbert C. Vilela; and the role of Sulodexide in the management of venous thromboembolism by Dr. Maria Teresa B. Abola, among many others.
Also present in the opening ceremony were current and past Board of Regents of PCP such as Dr. Mariano Lopez, Dr. Maricar Limpin, Dr. Anthony Leachon, and others.
