Cebu Provincial Legislator Urges Agencies To Hike Drive Vs Water Pollution
A Cebu provincial legislator has filed a resolution urging different government agencies to strengthen their drive against water pollution in the province.
Cebu Provincial Board (PB) Member Miguel Antonio Magpale, in a proposed resolution, urged all local government units (LGUs), Department of Environment and Natural Resources 7, Environmental Management Bureau 7 and the Cebu Provincial Health Office to strengthen their campaign against water pollution.
Magpale said he is concerned with the effects of water pollution on humans and other living organisms.
He cited as basis Republic Act 9275, or an An Act Providing for a Comprehensive Water Quality Management and for Other Purposes, Section 27 of which prohibits the “discharging, depositing or causing to be deposited material of any kind that may end up washed out into the seaor other surface water either by floods or other means, that impede its natural flow.”
Magpale cited the deterioration in the water quality in the different rivers in the province.
Magpale’s second proposed resolution calls on the Department of Health (DOH) 7, through the Cebu Provincial Health Office, and Department of Education (DepEd) 7 to address the problem on the lack of toilets and wash basins in all public schools province-wide.
Magpale noted that there are still public schools in the province where there is a shortage of toilets and hand washing facilities.
He said the lack of these facilities poses health hazards to students, especially for female students who he believes need more clean water. (PNA) LAP/EB/EDS
