Cebu City To Dispatch Garbage Trucks At Dawn, Early Evening To Avoid Heavy Traffic
The Cebu City Department of Public Services (DPS) Tuesday started dispatching in two shifts garbage trucks from their holding areas in the city to the private dumpsite in Consolacion town in northern Cebu to avoid heavy traffic, an official said.
Engr. Dionisio Gualiza, DPS chief, said the first batch on a daily basis will be dispatched at 4 a.m. and the second batch will be at 6 p.m.
Gualiza said garbage collection is easier at night because drivers and loaders avoid both the heat and road congestion.
Gualiza also said they won’t be disturbing residents.
He said drivers can travel faster to the private landfill in Consolacion at dawn or early evening because of minimal traffic.
The city’s garbage trucks holding area are inside the DPS compound at the South Road Properties for the southern barangays and the city’s Sewerage Treatment Plant at the North Reclamation Area for the northern barangays.
Earlier, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama announced that City Hall would take over the garbage collection of close to 50 lowland barangays to address the concerns on garbage collection efficiency.
Most of the barangay captains agreed after they signed the manifesto of support for the program.
Gualiza said 12 barangays in the south and 14 in the north turned over their garbage trucks, including the drivers and loaders, to the DPS on Monday, the start of the centralized garbage collection system.(PNA) FFC/EB/EDS
