The Iloilo Provincial Health Office (PHO) will strengthen its campaign against teenage pregnancy, according to PHO health officer I Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon.

This, after PHO records showed that teenage pregnancy in the province increased to 3,404 cases in 2015.

Specifically, there were 44 teens who got pregnant at the age of 10-14 while there were 3,360 teens who got pregnant at the age of 15-19.

“For me that is very alarming,” Quiñon said. She said that parents or guardians should always guide their children and educate them.

The ideal age for a woman to have a child is 24 and above, Quiñon said.

Teenagers are advised to wait for the right time and right age to be pregnant.

Further, Quiñon said that women should be physically, emotionally, psychologically and financially ready before getting pregnant. (PNA) LAP/PGL/CBFERRER/CBF
