The country will experience fair weather in the next three to five days, state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday.

In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Shaira Nonot said no weather disturbance is seen near the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) that may develop into tropical cyclone within the next three to five days or until Jan. 1. At this time, the northeast monsoon or “hanging amihan” continues to affect extreme northern Luzon.

Nonot said one tropical cyclone is expected to affect the country in January.

”So far the effect of northeast monsoon concentrates in northern Luzon but it will also bring cold mornings in some parts of Luzon including Metro Manila and the northeast monsoon usually peaks from early January to mid-February,” Nonot told the Philippines News Agency (PNA).

However, she noted that the northeast monsoon is expected to end in February due to El Niño phenomenon.

Meanwhile, the range of temperature in Metro Manila will be at 22-32 degrees Celsius for Monday.

The minimum temperature in Metro Manila on Sunday morning was recorded at 20 degrees Celsius at 5 a.m.

Metro Manila’s temperature readings are being recorded daily in the vicinity of the PAGASA Science Garden in Diliman, Quezon City between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m.

PAGASA said the all-time lowest temperature recorded in Metro Manila was at 14.9 degrees Celsius on March 1, 1963.

Nonot said the lowest temperature for the month of December recorded in Baguio was at 13 degrees Celsius on Dec. 23.

Baguio City, the country’s summer capital, continue to experience chilly temperatures as Monday’s temperature ranges from 13-23 degrees Celsius.

According to PAGASA’s climatological record, Baguio’s coldest temperature ever recorded was at 6.3 degrees on Jan. 18, 1961. (PNA) JMC/CLTC
