Wurtzbach’s Fellow ‘Cagayanons’ Elated by Her Victory in Ms. Universe 2015
Cagayan De Oro City (PNA) -– Cagayanons on Monday were jubilant and overwhelmed over the victory of Pia Alonso Wurtzbach as the crowned Miss Universe of 2015.
Like most of the Filipino people who were resigned when it was wrongly announced that Miss Columbia won the much coveted crown, the Cagayanons rose into euphoria when the host declared that Miss Philippines was Miss Universe 2015.
Catalino Chan, regional director of the Department of Tourism (DOT), was thrilled and expressed the confidence that the victory of Ms. Wurtzbach would push the regional and local tourism industry.
He said considering that Ms. Wurtzbach came from Cagayan De Oro City, this trading hub would definitely be in the roadmap of the world tourism as the next destination in the coming years.
In congratulating Wurztbach, Rep. Rufus Rodriguez said that the new Ms. Universe brought great pride and joy to the Filipino people.
“We are looking forward to welcoming our very own first Kagay-anon Miss Universe when she comes home,” Rodriguez said.
He said that Wurtzbach’s victory would certainly counter the false and negative comments of Miss New Zealand about Cagayan De Oro during the Ms. Pancontinental contest last November.
After 42 years, Miss Wurtzbach gained the Miss Universe crown last won for the Philippines by Margie Moran in 1973. The first Filipino to win the world’s most prestigious beauty title was Gloria Diaz in 1969. (PNA) LAP/CD
