Acting Cebu City VM to Reduce Legislative Building’s Power, Water Consumption by 5 Percent

Acting Cebu City Vice Mayor Nestor Archival Sr. has vowed to work for the reduction of the power and water consumption of City Hall’s legislative building by at least five percent in the next 60 days.

Archival, the number one Cebu City councilor, took his oath as acting vice mayor Wednesday since Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella assumed as acting mayor after the Office of the President placed Mayor Michael Rama under 60-day preventive suspension.

Archival said he took his oath as acting vice mayor after receiving a notice from the Department of Interior and Local Government 7 to assume the post last December 11.

Archival, an environmental advocate, said a five percent reduction would bring down the city’s power bill to PHP460,000 per month from PHP490,000 per and the water bill to PHP17,000 per month from PHP19,000.

Archival said he also wants to reduce by 50 percent the amount the city is paying for street lighting, which would be from PHP11 million per month to PHP5.5 million.

Archival said once the goal is achieved, the city can make a template for other local government units and private institutions to follow and eventually make an ordinance for energy-efficient buildings.

Archival said he also wants the legislative building to immediately install a rainwater catchment facility and to follow the Solid Waste Management Ordinance by implementing segregation at source.

“As makers of law, we set an example for our constituency to abide by the law,” he said.

Archival said he also wants legislative measures in place to address traffic and police concerns in the city as well as the congestion problem at the Cebu City Jail and urban poor concerns on demolition and relocation.

He said he also wants to introduce measures to address the drug problem and strengthen partnership with private companies and government agencies for job generation. (PNA) LAP/EB/EDS
