Use the Power of the Ballot to Choose Best Person to Lead PHL, Cebu Prelate Urges Voters
Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma on Wednesday urged the faithful to use the power of the ballot to choose the best person to lead the country in the 2016 elections.
”We must use the power of the ballot to elect the best leader for our country,” he said.
Palma said it is for the people to know the qualities and qualifications of the candidates for president and to pick the one who is best qualified to lead the country.
Palma also said he was saddened by the word war between presidential candidates Davao City Mayor Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte and former Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas.
”It revealed our kind of politics,” Palma said.
Duterte and Roxas threatened to slap each other after Roxas said Davao City’s image as a safe city is “a myth” as police records showed it has the fourth highest crime volume in 2014, with Duterte later saying Roxas’ Wharton Business School economics degree is “a myth.”
Roxas later challenged Duterte to a fistfight, while Duterte challenged Roxas to a duel.
Roxas, in a talk with reporters in Cebu Wednesday, vowed not to issue anymore any heated words against Duterte.
”Mayor Digong (Duterte), let’s level up. We owe it to the people,” Roxas said.
Roxas said the gun is not the answer to everything, referring to Duterte’s challenge to him to a duel. (PNA) LAP/EB/EDS
