Expect isolated rains in most parts of Luzon due to northeast monsoon or “hanging amihan” affecting the country, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday.

The northeast monsoon is the cold wind from China and Siberia that blows into the country from late October until mid-February. It is usually associated with the Christmas season.

For Friday forecast, cloudy skies with light rains will be experienced over Cagayan Valley Region while partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains is expected over the rest of Luzon.

It added partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of the country.

The state-run weather bureau also issued a gale warning due to the effects of the northeast monsoon as the sea condition would be rough to very rough due to strong to gale force winds expected to affect the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Central and Southern Luzon.

“Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” it warned.

In its advisory, PAGASA said moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast with slight to moderate seas. (PNA) JBP/CLTC
