Cebu IT Industry Leader to Head NICP
Wilfredo “Jun” Sa-a Jr., the managing director of the Cebu Educational Development Foundation for Information Technology (Cedf-IT), will be the incoming 2016 president of the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP).
Sa-a himself made the announcement during the 14th anniversary celebration of Cedf-IT held at the Lexmark building at the Cebu Business Park.
Although it is a national position, he clarified that he will still be based in Cebu.
“NICP is there to oversee that the 45 ICT councils all over the country are performing,” Sa-a said.
NICP is the recognized national organization of ICT Councils in the Philippines, serving as the venue for collaboration and sharing of best practices of member organizations.
Sa-a said Cedf-IT was the first ICT council organized in the Philippines that helped form the other ICT councils in the country today.
The founding of the organization came in 2001 during the first Cebu IT Summit, when stakeholders signed a memorandum of agreement to work together to help increase the quantity and improve the quality of Cebu’s ICT workforce to become one of the country’s ICT Hub.
Over the years, Cedf-IT became one of the major organizations responsible for Cebu’s thriving business process outsourcing industry.
“Cedf-IT is here to address the quantity and quality of IT people in Cebu,” Sa-a said.
The BPO/ICT industry in Cebu is currently employing over 100,000 workers and the demand is increasing, Sa-a said. (PNA) CTB/EB/EDS
